Antigambling regulations

For thousands of years state and church authorities tried to prohibit or at least control gambling. Alas, without any success. It seems that apart from being disastrous in material ways, one of the main problems of the church leaders was that games swallowed the players in their world, distracting them completely from their daily obligations and activities. Indeed, it seems that even priests preferred the game boards and fields instead of participating in the church rites and ceremonies.
