Most of the names we use for game pieces, moves, tactics and strategies, are metaphors of concepts used originally in warfare, politics, social organization, cultural interactions, and everyday life.
The study of concepts related to specific games played in specific periods, may reveal both how the games were influenced by their context, but also how they influenced this context.
