Games and cultural meetings

Games are very interesting sources for the study of cultural meetings and as agents of diffusion of cultural attributes. In ancient and medieval times, when communication and transportation was so different from the present, games were significant agents of cultural meetings, exactly due to their transportability.

Textual and visual sources from various periods witness on games putting together people from different places, religions, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and social groups and classes. This sitting together over the same game has undoubtedly influenced the games, their rules, their material side and their metagame. At the same time, it influenced the players and their culture.
