Games and education

In modern times, games are considered as excellent means of systematic work and training, both physical and intellectual, in the army, in professional activities and in education. Playing games has become a distinctive educational and stimulating method.

But this is a modern phenomenon. Both in Antiquity and the medieval times, education was supposed to be an activity based on seriousness and discipline, two values that were evaluated as opposite to the frivolity of games. As a result, games were simply excluded from teaching and learning.
