Games as social worlds

Have you ever been in the middle of a group of people sharing a passion for the same game? If you have, you know that it is almost unavoidable to feel a stranger among them. You might even feel that these people around you speak a different language or live in a world different than yours. If the situation sounds familiar, then you have experienced what a game soft community is.

Game communities have their own rules, their own codes of communication, their own rituals, their own memories, their own status systems and their own traditions, sometimes their own locations as well. They also have their own identities, their own values and principles, their own structure and hierarchy, and their own borders.
