Tarot and the occult

When I was a student, I had a friend who had a Tarot card-pack home. The first time she asked me to play, I noticed that the one corner of all cards was burned. When I asked why, she answered that Tarot is something more than a game equipment and to protect yourself from its metaphysical powers, you have to burn one of the corners of the card-pack. This was in the beginnings of the 1990s. Such misconceptions are still widespread.

The Tarot pack was invented as a game equipment. And it was played as a card game for centuries before its use for divination came up. After a very long period of pure use as game equipment, the Tarot cards were related at the end of the eighteenth century to cartomancy. The video lecture explains how this happened.
